About Us...

Wow... that's a tough one. Who are we ? We are a small company led by myself, who personally gets involved on every project. There's no hip office space in downtown somewhere, no receptionist and no office manager. We operate online as a virtual office comprised of a Team of Professionals developed over the past 35 years and we keep getting more and more interesting.

We are personally passionate about the Ocean, Photography, Travel, Scuba Diving, Eco-Tourism, Sailing, Gardening, Business and great Web Site Design... especially when we can partner with a client to manage the analytics and marketing behind a web site and help the company achieve their goals, something we have historically been very good at...

I was born in Montreal, Quebec and raised in the small community of Chateauguay just outside of the Island. My childhood home lay less than a minute from our school and backed up to a large Indian Reserve, which presented hundreds of square miles of woods to explore. I would often leave for school as the home bell rang and spent every lunch hour at home with my Mother and Grandmother, playing with our German Shepherd, Buster, or swimming in the family pool.

Summers were spent at our grandparents large dairy farm chasing cows, playing in the grain elevator and discovering the joys of getting lost in acres upon acres of corn fields.

By my sixteenth birthday, it was obvious to my teachers that I had a creative inclination. My grade ten art class project was a thirty-minute film which the entire tenth and eleventh grade turned out for in the auditorium which received the highest mark of any project given in the school that year. One year later, I entered Dawson College and paid my way through College by working as a lifeguard.

After graduating from Dawson College with a degree in Advertising Design in 1976, I set off to tour North America in my 1967 MG Midget, against the better judgement of virtually all my friends. Upon returning several months later, I opened Steve Ink, my own design firm.

This site sets out to celebrate 30 years of travel and work. Very little has changed.

I still regularly travel, usually to places where I can be in the ocean, having spent several months in Florida, Jamaica, Mexico and California in between projects in the early 80's and then moving to St. Maarten for eighteen months to work on Discover St. Martin Magazine, visiting the Islands surrounding the area for photographic editorial projects. My work has appeared in Ocean's Realm magazine, Discover St. Martin, Outside, Sierra, National Geographic and virtually every major newspaper across Canada.

It was during this period that I became a scuba diver and Boat Captain, completing my Open Water, Advanced and Rescue Diver training in the waters of the Caribbean and in 1991, set off on a year long voyage aboard my 37 foot Beneteau Blue Grace and ended up in Bermuda, where I worked for a variety of companies assisting them with brand identity and large scale tourism brochures for the Bermuda Department of Tourism.

I relocated to New Symrna Beach in Florida to assist The Silverton Group before moving back to Montreal to work with the Troppus Group as Creative Director and then moving to BBDO to work as Associate Creative Director on the Chrysler Canada account, winning the Best in Canada Marketing Award for the launch of the PT Cruiser.

My wife Yim and I visited Belize, loved it and purchased a little over an acre of beachfront property, where we hoped to build a small resort as I had completed my certification as a PADI Scuba Instructor. By the year 2000, we had begun building our small eco-resort in Belize when we were offered the opportunity to run Robert's Grove, the top Five Star Resort in Belize and accepted, since we would be working less than five miles from our newly built beach home. After several years of teaching scuba diving along the barrier reef, we chose to return to Canada.

During our stay, I led hundreds of diving expeditions on to the world's second largest barrier reef and led Whale Shark expeditions for the World Wildlife Foundation.

Upon our return to Canada, I founded The Steve Roper Group and began creating websites for a series of non-profit companies and relocated to Vancouver Island.

My goal is to continue to look for clients with whom I can collaborate on projects involving sustainable eco-tourism, scuba diving, travel, conservation and photography.
